Hello! It it so nice to meet you! My name is Miriam and I am a trained doula serving women and their families in Tucson and surrounding areas. I am married to my wonderful husband, Baltazar, and we have a beautiful one-year-old son named Shalom, whom I have the joy to stay home and care for. We are both saved by grace and believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, walking through life with our amazing church family in Tucson. I work part-time to serve local families in providing resources and increasing their strengths in parenting their children. I enjoy listening to music and podcasts, playing the piano, crocheting, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and relentlessly trying to make a decent loaf of sourdough bread.
My passion for birth first began after hearing about a friend's empowering unassisted birth story in 2022. I, then, embarked on a journey of learning as much as I possibly could about women's reproductive health, pregnancy, birth, and motherhood, indulging in hundreds of hours of content through books, websites, podcasts, and attending in-person and online courses and training. Although I had previously considered supporting women in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, it took experiencing these things myself to fully commit to becoming a doula, finally understanding the impact the presence, or lack thereof, a support person may have during this season. After I gave birth to my son, the Lord placed a desire in my heart–too strong to ignore–to support and hold other mothers through such a sacred, vulnerable, and intimate season of life. I desire for all mothers to feel loved, seen, cared for, and to provide support as each one strives for the birth and postpartum experiences they desire. My foundation for doula work is showing the love of Christ to mothers and their families as they transition into the beautiful and sanctifying work of motherhood.
I believe God designed the female body to carry and bring forth life, creating birth to be a physiological–or normal–event in the life of mothers. I believe that birth often goes best when left alone, however, medical interventions do have a time and a place. I believe that women have the right to choose how they want to navigate their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and that her desires should be supported by myself and her loved ones, whether that means she wishes to birth unassisted and alone or at a hospital with a team of medical professionals. I believe that the birth experience, along with the support a woman has during her transition into motherhood, has a lifelong impact on the mother and her children. I believe that God designed women with innate power and strength to help bring forth their babies but that He also calls us to a deeper reliance on Him by bringing us to the end of ourselves during birth and the transition into motherhood. I believe that birth is sacred and intimate, to be respected and honored, and is a wonderful, beautiful, miraculous event that only God could have designed.
